Full, dense four-finger head. Dark brown with yellowish hue. Carbonated, caramel, candy. Quite alcoholic, 10%, which seems to soak and overtake everything. Hint of chocolate.

Quite eager to try this beer, but found it to somewhat un-extraordinary. An above-average beer, but not spectacular or memorable. Will try this again soon to give it another chance, given its very high rating in the reviews. Somehow, I am not tasting the hype. Am I missing out something?

Gigantic bubbly foamy head, dark copper brown with yellowish hue, pretty hazey. Caramel, sweet, burnt, candy. Mellow and relatively dry at the end. Raisins and brandy, a sense of cocoa and vanilla as it warms up. Really pleasant and delicious, not overpowering at all. Really complex. Ranks with Orval as the best Abbey beers I had so far. I found this to be better than Chimay Blue, which lacks a certain finesse.

8 November 2013

Pour: Gigantic, bubbly, thicky, foamy, light-brown head. Body is dark leathery brown.

Nose: Very carbonated, candy, sweet smell. Hint of roasted malt. Predominantly sweet.

Palate: Carbonated, sweet, caramel, dried fruits, raisins, fruitcake, brandy. Foam formed a layer on top of the body, which gave the mouthfeel some texture.

This is my second time tasting the Rochefort 8. I think the Rochefort 10 is my favourite in the lineup: most complex and delicious.

Pours dark amber with slight haze, minimal head. Bitterness, but not as pronounced and impactful as the Dogfish Head 90 minute IPA. Lasting bitter aftertaste that is livelier and less subtle. Grapefruit, biscuit, caramel. A really good IPA that feels like a more hoppy Mirror Pond, but just not as distinctive, complex, multi-stage and bold as the 90 minutes IPA. Oh, peppery when it warms, for some reason.

Pale yellow with a green tinge. Lime, citrus perfume. Acid, orange, with slight oil. Some life, fizz, sweet. Not remarkable, but drinkable.

Slightly cloudy dark orangey amber with very slight head. Very hoppy, controlled, rich and flavourful bitterness that reduces into a solid malt sweetness, before finishing for very long in a lingering aromatic bitter aftertaste. Delicious and rich, takes a while to finish, well balanced. Quite alcoholic. Very good beer. One of the best, if not the best IPA I ever had.

Large five finger foamy dark caramel head. Body is pitch black, with a hint of dark brown. Coffee, dark chocolate, roasted, rich and warm. Pleasant aromatic bitterness that lingers and is not overpowering. As it gets warmer, slight sweetness. Very delicious and satisfying, accessible for its type. I am quite sure a coffee lover or dark chocolate lover will love it on first try.
