Pour: Two-finger yellow-brown head with big bubbles in my St Bernardus goblet. Very hazy, bootstrap yellow-brown. Earthy-looking. Looks very intriguing and robust.
Nose: Definitely bread and malt. Some sweet caramel.
Palate: Carbonated, candy, malt, bread, raisins, mellows out at the end. Full mouthfeel, almost creamy. Taste of tea. Very smooth and clean for a beer of this type. Finish is thin. Tastes funky towards the bottom of the goblet.
This seems to be better and more distinctive than the St Bernardus 12, which received fantastic reviews online. Somehow, I prefer this. Delicious beer. But not as complex as the Trappistes Rocheforts, which, to me, ranks above St Bernardus.
